Quick pastel drawing of Damian from Fucked Up.
When I was in high school, I was waaaay into Philip Guston, but I sucked with oil paints. I started using pastels and loved them, because I could be super messy, but it looked like I was doing it on purpose! It’s probably been over 5 years since I used pastels, but I was listening to Fucked Up while I showered, saw some pastels on my drawing desk, and voila, here we are.
I drew this for a retrospective on bombthemusicindustry that Punknews was gonna post, but I don’t think they ever put it online. That was over a month ago, so whatever, you can see it here now!
BTMI! were seriously one of my favorite bands. The lyrics are so funny and depressing and relatable, and the music is so spazzy and fun. I really have nothing else to say, besides that band ruled and helped me through some shit.
Hey, are you in Salt Lake RIGHT NOW?!? Oh, cool, you should come visit me at Craft Sabbath at the SLC Main Library. I’m selling punk rock Valentines for $5 a pop until 5. I’ve got Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee, Henry, Glenn, Milo and a whole bunch more! Tell your friends!
Athena is rad and put me on the cover of her comic, guilty of committing Grand Theft Pizza. Go to her page and read that shit.
Webcomic Wednesdays #56
Where we all do something great while drunk
By Ricky Vigil
Hey, I drew this! I’ve actually been meaning to draw this comic for a few years, but I’m glad I waited till my skills improved a little bit. And the Lawrence Arms have a new album coming out next week, so great timing!
Just made a Mikey Erg Valentine for a friend. I think I’m gonna draw a bunch of these punk rock Valentines… and maybe sell ‘em?
This is for a fest happening in February to raise money for Randall Farrell, who found himself in a not-too-awesome financial situation after his venue Blank Space was shut down. So if you’re in Salt Lake on the 22nd, you should totes go. It’s gonna be really fun, a lot of cool bands, and can get a haircut, I guess? It’s gonna rule.
I’m way super stoked for this show. A ton of my favorite Salt Lake bands, and a cool venue, and a good cause, and a rad poster!
New comic! My scanner decided to be a piece of shit, so I used a scanner app on my phone to bring it to my computer… It kinda looks better than my scanner normally does anyway.
Today’s art journal entry. I’ve made three comics so far this year! That’s almost half as many as I made in all of 2012! Cool!
Tomorrow I’m starting a work-related diet.I’m wary of it. But we must let go of things to better ourselves. All we love we leave behind. Or something.
